Stars & Stripes WWII Articles ◊
Stars & Stripes has put online a number of photos, stories and pages from
their WWII editions. One of the most interesting articles is "German tanks
met their master" which describes comabt by the Ninth Army and includes the
following American comments on the German Tiger II:
Finally, the premier performance of the new super-tank—the
Germans' highly-touted Tiger Royal—turned out to be no more potent than
the ordinary Tiger. Except for the longer and more frightening barrel on
the 88, it is the same, most of the men claim... "We call the Tiger Royal
the 'King Size' Tiger," one American said. "That barrel sticks out there
like a little fat man smoking a Pall Mall."

U.S. VIII Corps – Mission Accomplished ◊
Mission Accomplished was the official unit history
of the U.S. Army VII Corps which fought in the European Theater. At various times, the VII Corps
included the following combat divisions: 1st Infantry, 2nd Infantry, 2nd Armored,
3rd Armored, 4th Infantry, 5th Armored, 7th Armored, 8th Infantry, 8th Armored,
9th Infantry, 9th Armored, 30th Infantry, 35th Infantry, 69th Infantry, 75th Infantry,
78th Infantry, 79th Infantry, 82nd Airborne, 83rd Infantry, 84th Infantry,
86th Infantry, 90th Infantry, 99th Infantry, 101st Airborne, and 104th Infantry.

Japanese Civil Defense Posters ◊
The National Archives of Japan has digitized a collection of civil
defense and air-raid precautions posters from WWII.

450th Bomb Group Pictures ◊
T/Sgt. Murphy flew with the 721st Squadron, 450th Bomb Group in WWII.
This website contains a set of interesting photos from his service including
a number of B-24 Liberator photos.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14
Operation Outward - British Balloon Attacks ◊
Although less well-known than the Japanese balloon attacks on the United States,
the British also utilized free-flying balloons for attacks on Germany during WWII from
March 1942 to September 1944. The greatest documented success of Operation Outward was
the destruction of the German power station at Bohlen.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9
180th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion ◊
This is a small website devoted to WWII veteran Joseph L. Begin and the
180th Engineer Battalion (Heavy Ponton). The 180th served
with the 3rd Army and 9th Army in Europe and earned campaign credits
for Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6
Mighty Eighth Museum ◊
The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum tells the story of American airpower in WWII through
exhibits, artifacts, and oral histories. The museum is also working to collect information
to create a database of 8th Air Force Veterans. Over ten years old, the museum is based
in Georgia, west of Savannah.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3
Bud Anderson's P-51 Mustang "Old Crow" ◊
Clarence E. "Bud" Anderson is a WWII triple ace who flew his
P-51 Mustang nicknamed "Old Crow" in combat. Anderson flew with the U.S.
357th Fighter Group "Yoxford Boys" of the 8th Air Force. The website highlights
the accomplishments of the 357th Fighter Group and other P-51 pilots in WWII. The
website includes numerous photographs, documents, and historic accounts from the air
war against the Luftwaffe along with the restored P-51 Mustang "Old Crow."

Herb Herr's WWII Photographs ◊
This website displays a small set of WWII photographs from Herb Herr who served
